Alcohols, Phenols and Ethers are another important class of organic compounds. By simply replacing the hydrogen atom in a hydrocarbon by -OH group, we get a new class of compounds (alcohols/phenols) which differ vastly in their physical properties and chemical reactions. These compounds find ubiquitous applications: from the sugar we eat, cotton we use in fabrics, paper, household products such as disinfectants to medicinal applications.
